Tintin was originally a character in a series of comic books by Belgian cartoonist Hergé. The comics became very popular in Europe and spawned several films and an animated cartoon in the 90’s. Now, Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson give us another adaption using motion-capture animation.
The plot centers around a young reporter named Tintin (Jamie Bell). One day he buys a model of the legendary ship named the Unicorn which supposedly held a secret cargo until it was sunk by pirates. But this model isn’t what it appears to be. It turns out there are three of the same model, each holding a secret message that when pieced together, will lead you to the secret cargo of the Unicorn. Just when Tintin finds this out, he is kidnapped by the greedy Ivan Ivanovitch Sackharine (Daniel Craig) who will stop at nothing to find the secret of the Unicorn. Now Tintin must team up with his loyal dog, Snowy, and Captain Haddock (Andy Serkus), descendent of the original captain of the Unicorn.
I find little wrong with this movie. My only complaint would be that the character model for Tintin seemed to stick out from the rest of the characters. This is because Tintin was given a more realistic appearance compared to the other characters who have more exaggerated faces.
Besides that, I have high praise for this film. The action was fast-paced and exciting. It reminded me of the Indiana Jones TRILOGY in a good way. Also, the animation was some of the best that I have ever seen. This film also is great for the entire family.
Overall, this is probably one of my favorite films of the year. I highly suggest you go and see it now. Final rating: 4.5/5
