Temporary
October 1, 2018
And did you hope you could sing it away,
that lonely, aching feeling?
The voice in the back of your brain
whispering that no one loves you
and you’re better off dead?
Did you hope to drown out that voice with your own,
replace the emptiness with the rhythm of a song?
It won’t work.
Ah, but darling, don’t worry –
you don’t have to fix yourself forever.
You only need to fix yourself for tonight so that you can fall asleep.
You only need to fix yourself enough that people don’t notice the cracks.
So sing your songs and ease the aching.
Perhaps it’s a temporary fix,
perhaps you’re doomed to a life of putting band-aids on broken bones, but darling,
perhaps it’ll be enough.
