Me
May 20, 2019
How do I explain myself to someone I’ve never met?
I could describe my physical appearance –
hair and eyes the color of mud, skin yellow-brown golden.
But I barely know what I look like, and my body is only a shell.
I could describe my race –
my ethnic composition, as if people were only formulas –
50% this, 25% that.
But they’re so much more, I know that,
and so I am more than half Asian, more than dark hair and eyes.
I am a creator; magical, bringing to life worlds previously unknown.
I am singing for joy and running for the sheer feeling of movement.
I am standing still and watching rain fall, the trees dancing in the wind.
I am spreading your arms as wide as you can and waiting to fly.
