The Maze Runner (Book Review)

There’s a reason The Maze Runner book has been on The New York Times Bestseller List for over one hundred weeks!  In this sci-fi book, James Dashner will keep you on your toes!  In a post-apocalyptic world where teens are the pawns of evil adults, a new, young male is sent to a place called the Glade each month.  Inside the Glade is the mysterious Maze, where deadly mechanical creatures called Grievers lurk.  Some of the Gladers are Runners, whose jobs are to find an exit to the Maze.  All seems well inside of the Glade until Thomas shows up.  Suddenly, people start to accuse Thomas of helping the “Creators” build the Maze.  For the first time, a girl shows up at the Glade.  Soon, the girl, whose name is Teresa, initiates the “ending”.  Before the Gladers know it, the walls of the Maze don’t close, and the Grievers begin to wander all throughout the Glade.  Can Thomas and his friends find a way out of the Maze before the Grievers get them, or will the monstrous beasts have a feast?

With constant action, suspense, and mystery, you won’t be able to tear your eyes away from the page!  The Maze Runner is reminiscent of books like The Lord of the Flies and The Hunger Games.  Readers who like dystopian novels will enjoy it.  Dashner provides barely enough information to answer the questions in the reader’s mind and keeps you guessing from start to finish.  The Maze Runner is a gripping, fast-paced, and entertaining book.  Dashner’s cliffhanger ending will gear teens up for the second book in the series, The Scorch Trials.  Now, The Maze Runner is a major motion picture.
