“Life as We Knew It” Book Review
March 15, 2015
“Life as We Knew It” by: Susan Beth Pfeffer is an amazing book. In it, a 16 year-old girl named Miranda is with her older and younger brothers (Matt and Jonny) and her mom. A meteor hits the moon, but pushes it closer to the Earth. Catastrophe ensues. The gravitational force on the planet becomes much stronger, causing tides over 20 feet high, dormant volcanoes to erupt, and earthquakes to happen all over. It’s a fight for survival, as they stock up on food and hope for the best.
I absolutely loved this book. It really makes you think: Could this happen to us? Could the moon be pushed closer to us? I also loved the emotions the characters are given. You always know their emotions, as the author keeps repeating what their feelings are, but not in a way that it becomes excessive and annoying. The story is written through Miranda’s point of view (the book is her diary, which really helps me understand her feelings). This book has a great lesson also: never give up, because if you persevere to the end, it will all be okay. I hope you read this book and enjoy it as much as I did!
