What is “Wordle?”

My own personal “Wordle” outcome from February 1, 2022.

“Wordle” is a word game developed in October 2021 by Josh Wardle. “Wordle” functions as a guessing game. Each day “Wordle” users are given six chances to guess the five-letter word (or “Wordle”) of the day. When a word is guessed, the letters in that word will change color to indicate if they are in the word of the day. The letters turning black/gray indicates they are not present, yellow letters indicate that the letter is in a different place in the word, and green letters mean that letter is in the correct place in the word. While it seems easy, “Wordle” can be a frustration to those with lesser-than vocabularies or bad luck.

Students around the school can be seen trying to figure out the daily “Wordle” in study halls and passing periods. “Wordle” has not only become an internet sensation, but a highly popular game among SBRHS students! This game was brought to fame through the social media application “Tik Tok” and has continued to grow in its user base ever since. The New York Times recently purchased “Wordle” and has been publishing hints and solutions to each day’s “Wordle” on their website. The game itself has a nice added touch of giving compliments (like “fantastic!”) if the user reaches the daily “Wordle” answer, no matter how many guesses it takes.
